Where Roller Blinds Work Best

Roller blinds are suitable for almost any space, including:

  • Living Rooms & Bedrooms - Style and privacy combined with fabric options to match décor.
  • Kitchens & Bathrooms - Durable, easy-to-clean fabrics suited for high-use areas.
  • Offices & Commercial Spaces - Professional appearance with practical glare and heat reduction.
  • Large or Difficult Windows - Custom-made roller blinds can fit wide spans and tall windows.

Why Choose Roller Blinds?

Roller blinds (or roller shades) are one of the most popular and versatile window covering options. They offer a sleek, modern look while providing excellent control over light, privacy, and temperature. Easy to operate, cost-effective, and suitable for almost any room, roller blinds are a go-to choice for both homeowners and businesses.

Benefits:

  • Streamlined and modern looking
  • Excellent light, heat and privacy control
  • Easy to operate and maintain
  • Cost-effective compared to other window coverings
  • Fully customisable to suit any room or style

Types of Roller Blinds

Sunscreen blinds filter harsh sunlight while still allowing you to see outside. They reduce glare, heat, and UV exposure - helping protect your furniture and keep rooms comfortable. Sunscreen blinds provide excellent daytime privacy (note: visibility can reverse at night with lights on inside).

Best for: Living areas, offices, and sunny windows where you still want natural light and your view.

Light-filtering blinds diffuse sunlight to create a softer, more ambient feel while maintaining privacy. Unlike sunscreen fabrics, they are not see-through.

Best for: Lounges, dining areas, and spaces where you want light without direct visibility in or out.

Blackout blinds block light from passing through the fabric (small edge gaps can still occur depending on installation), making them ideal for complete privacy and better sleep conditions. They also help regulate temperature by reducing heat transfer.

Best for: Bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms, or shift workers.

Dual roller blinds combine two fabrics - typically sunscreen and blackout - on one bracket. This allows you to switch between natural light during the day and full privacy at night.

Best for: Bedrooms, living areas, and spaces where you want full control throughout the day.

Helpful Things to Know About Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are a practical and versatile option for most homes. Here are a few helpful things to know when choosing the right setup for your space.

Light Gaps on Blackout Blinds

Blockout fabric prevents light from passing through the material, though small gaps around the edges can still occur depending on the installation type. For rooms where full darkness is important, we can recommend solutions to minimise this.

Night-Time Privacy with Sunscreen Blinds

Sunscreen blinds provide excellent daytime privacy, but at night - when lights are on inside - visibility from the outside can increase.

In these cases, pairing with a blackout blind or choosing a different fabric may be a better option.

Splitting Blinds on Wide Windows

Larger windows and sliding doors are often split into multiple blinds for smoother operation and better alignment.

This can create small gaps between blinds, which we’ll factor into the design and discuss with you beforehand.

Customisation Options

During our measure and consultation, we will discuss your options and ensure the roller blinds are personalised to suit your style and functionality needs:

  • Bottom Rail Profiles & Colours - Choose a finish that complements your window and décor. We have flat, oval, and fabric wrapped profiles. Colours available: white, cream, silver, and black.
  • Chain Colours - Match or contrast with your fabric for a polished look. Available in black, white, beige, grey or stainless.
  • Cordless Control - Cordless option to raise and lower the blind to desired height with just your hand. Removes the need for any hanging cords.
  • Motorisation & Smart Control - Upgrade from manual chains to motorised systems, including remote or smart home integration. See more under the motorisation section below.
  • Fabric & Colour Range - Select from a wide palette of colours, patterns and textures to perfectly fit your space.
  • Mounting Options - Mounting your roller blinds inside the frame provides a sleek, clean, built-in look, taking up less space. Outside mount can cover light gaps more effectively and are well suited to windows with narrower frames, where an inside mount might not be possible.
  • Dual Shades - Pair a sunscreen or light filtering roller shade with a blackout roller shade for the best of both worlds: reduced glare during the day, and total privacy at night.

Motorised Roller Blinds

With motorised roller blinds, you can raise or lower your blinds at the touch of a button, smartphone or even through voice control with a smart speaker. The compact motor sits neatly inside the roller tube, so your blinds maintain their clean, modern look.

All of our roller blind fabrics - blackout, thermal, sunscreen, light filtering, or dual - can be motorised. The system runs on slim rechargeable batteries, which are easily charged via USB or topped up with a discreet solar panel. That means no hard-wiring, no electrician costs, and no visible cabling. What's more, the motors are extremely quiet, operating smoothly without excessive noise.

Many of our models can be retrofitted with a motor at a later stage, should you wish to upgrade.
